It was mostly her personality that I enjoyed. Her voice is warm in tone but lacked range and control. She often had trouble with the quieter parts of songs, and went off-pitch, especially at the beginning of the performances. She over-did it at times, trying to blast out a glory-note that wasn't quite there or copied too closely to the original when she did not quite have the "chops" of the original singer. I would have liked to see her sing less well-known, less ambitious songs. Her joy and an innate sweetness came through, and she is absolutely stunning; I also liked that she "dressed up" at times. I thought Vonzell did fairly well on-stage, with a few occasions where she seemed a bit unsure or made a bad decision on her "routine" (like when she tried to use the walk-way behind the judges and had trouble navigating the stairs). She really deserved it, she in my opinion has showed the most improvement through the whole season. She was kinda of shaky at first and really started to shine after the top twelve were picked. In the music world of her genre, I am afraid, she is not special enough. There are a lot in the urban, r&b, hip-hop music industry already. However she has no control over her voice , often going off key and sounding very 'pitchy' as Randy Jackson would say. I think that after a few months of intensive vocal training , to learn how to better control her instrument , she could be a force to be reckoned with but at the moment she's nowhere near ready for the title of 'American Idol'. She's sort of like Constantine in that sense however Constantine is a little better performer in my opinion. However, what Vonzell Solomon has over Constantine is a better voice. She keeps trying to be Whitney but she's just not polished like Whitney. You always think after her performance that something just was missing. And what's missing is she doesn't sound like a professional, like how Bo, Carrie, Anwar, Kelly Clarkson, or Tamyra Gray sounds. Those singers voices are refined and controlled. One of the songs that Vonzell sang was "Anyone who had a heart." Kelly Clarkson and Tamyra Gray sang pieces of that song and they just blow Vonzell away. 67 Other Reviews Total |
