He deserved to win SO much!! I don't think it's fair that he had to deal with Simon to show the country how talented he is...but it worked! Taylor is the most original Idol that's ever come off the show, and he deserves every bit of success he's going to get!! Not to mention he is GORGEOUS! He's got the best smile and the prettiest eyes! While Taylor definitely wasn't the best singer on the show, he was certainly the best performer out of all the season five contestants. He had originality, a really high likeability factor (which is why he got the highest number of votes each week and was never in the bottom three/two), and awesome stage prescence which is why, in the end, was crowned the new American Idol. 'Voice Power:' He does have decent power. 'Voice Control:' He has good control. Basically, he has a smokey sounding voice with decent power and range, and good control. 'Emotes with Feeling:' Hell yes! As well as anybody! The man sings with soul! 'Sings with pizzazz, flair, & energy:' When hasn't he sang with pizzazz, flair, and energy? 'Own style and originality:' Sometimes, but more likely not. 'Stage Presence:' For the most part yeah, but not a totally. 'Appeal, charm, or charisma:' Yes! Like Simon said, he's like the drunken dad getting up on stage. Reminds me of Ron Goldman's dad playing the Air Guitar with his son. 'Physically Attractive:' NO - the guy looks ordinary. He does have a good voice, and he excells especially with older soulful songs by artists such as Ray Charles or Sam Cooke. However he is very in his style and vocal ability. What he lacks in vocal ability, he makes up for with his energetic performances. Based on pure talent and ability, I do not believe Taylor Hicks deserves to be the American Idol of 2006, but I think he does have a great career ahead of him. He also brings that different factor, and man comfy in his own skin and not afraid to show it. Self confident, yet humble and just an all round really nice guy. He's up against some tough competition, Mandisa and Chris in particular and I fully expect to see him in the final three... will he be our next Idol?
