His smooth voice isn't the most powerful or full of range, but he performed with ease and masterful control of the notes. Where he lacked for me was emotional connection to songs (while contestants like Jasmine get dinged for smiling during emotional songs, he seems to get a pass) and stage presence.

His weight has been an insperation. He don't make a big deal of his weight, he just goes with Gods Path in life. I liked his voice alot. But he had never. EVER. EVER. EVER. Looked into the camera. I tape every episode. I still watch back and don't see him look at camera. Iv'e been into the studio. There are blinking cameras to let them know which camera to look at. He don't. Other do. And right before camera changes they look at audiance. Great Raspy voice. Favriot:Imagine Least:Sweet Home Alabama.

Ruben is a good R & B singer. He can sing with the best of them. His stage presence is lacking, not enough energy and conviction. He does have that cute dimple thing going on. He also sings Gospel well.

to be frank i feel he was a bit over rated and pumped up to much by simon. He has a very good voice but isnt a great performer. I dont think he should of won i would have placed him more around 6th place.

Ruben is a very talented young man. He has a lovely warm voice that is particularly well suited to R&B. He did have occasional pitch-troubles and more scratchiness as the show went on, likely due to either illness or vocal overuse. Musical knowledge was evident in his performances. Ruben's personality was a bit too laid-back, but I did see flashes of a sense of humor and wit. His weight did not bother me, but I did feel that it hurt him vocally, in terms of breath-control. Ruben's stage-presence on AI was a bit static, perhaps due to being on a larger stage, but his size is almost enough stage-presence in itself. Ruben's main strengths are his musicality and his warm vocal tone. His weaknesses? Perhaps too much of a tendency to fall back onto unoriginal habits (using the same notes in a run, same arm movements and stage-moves), and also not always picking the best songs to highlight his range and versatility, playing it too safe. I also felt that the lack of constructive criticism, during AI, was a deterrent to Ruben's musical growth and exploration.

That was the only song Ruben did on the show that I enjoyed. Otherwise it was like watching the same performance over and over. I was stunned that the judges never called him on things like breath control and his only movement being repeating the same hand movements. But, he did have a lot of fans and it's a shame he wasn't able to take advantage of the exposure AI offered him. Plain and simple, he should have worked harder.

He really hasn't shown a whole lot of potential. I don't want to appear rude, but I think his size could be affecting his performance. Other than that, he has a good voice and is a good person.

Ruben charmed us all, but always sang the same kind of song. His breathing in the middle of a word, which happened very often, was annoying and distracted from the delivery. Unfortunately, when he exuded energy it caused more delivery problems. I loved his voice, and regret the shortcomings caused by the lack of energy.

While I enjoy the richness of Ruben's voice I did feel he lacked stage presence and proper breath control in his voice. I wish him well in the furture. He is a good man.

Ruben has a great, smooth voice, but didn't stretch, didn't improve and had no stage presence skills. Too bad the judges didn't give critic him as they did others. Maybe he would have learned something about performing. Then his first CD didn't show off his voice and was not what I expected. Even a couple of my friends who were into the Velvet Teddy Bear thing, aren't interested in his career now. I hope his next CD will get some of his fans back.

Ruben has a wonderful rich voice with limited range and control, and basically no stage presence. His voice is identifiable, but his style is strictly mimiced from others.

Everything about Ruben's voice quality is average. Everything about his stage presence is below average. Why did he win? He has a likeability factor that is off the map--even higher than 10. His interactions with Ryan Secrest alone probably won the competition for Ruben. He was adopted by American as their loveable Teddy Bear because of this likeability factor and that took him to a win even as Clay's vocals and look improved by leaps and bounds each week. Go figure?

He seems like a really nice guy and has a nice voice. But nice shouldn't be enough with so much at stake. I don't think he should have been in the final - top 5 maybe. But the wrong guy won that night. No doubt about it. Record sales tell the truth. Sorry Ruben fans.

I always thought he was nice, but just boring. Also thought there were other contestants in Season 2 (Clay, K. Lo, Josh, Trenyce) that were actually stronger vocally/performance wise. Felt the judges should have given him more advice, instead of patting him on the back for lackluster performances. It would have helped him in the long run--maybe he would have had more growth then.

Ruben didn't change much from week to week. His performance at the end was almost the same as it was at the beginning. He was good, but he didn't really improve, and he really just seemed to be copying Luther.

Not only was he not the greatest singer... he was also wrongfully given the title. No one from Clay's homestate was able to get through to vote yet Ruben's was. It sounds waay to fishy...Clay lost by less than 1% of the vote.. I am convinced the show is rigged, and Clay is the true winner. He's had better publicity, INCREDIBLE record sales, INCREDIBLE concert venue sales, INCREDIBLE merchandising sales, Clay was soo much better. The show is about who is the best performer, not the " biggest velvet teddy bear" Clay is my velvet teddy bear!

I loved Ruben's voice on AI2, but was very dissapointed in his first album. He ranks high up with Clay as having performed some of my all time favorite American Idol performances (Sweet Home Alabama, Can't get enough of your love....etc.).

I like Ruben I just don't think he should have been the winner!!

Throughout the AI season, I never understood how this singer stayed in the competition for so long. He was often pitchy, and his final performances were no better than his first ones. He didn't grow, either as a singer or as a performer, and although his voice is pleasant enough, there was just nothing special about either the tonality or the range. His performances were lackluster and predictable, and he suffered for not having the benefit of useful criticism from the judges.

ruben is a nice guy with a good voice. He has limited range though and needs to take better care of humself to make it in the hard world of music.When he's rested and healthy his voice is silky and smooth.

He basically copies Luther Vandross. And he's a good copy of Luther. Good control and delivery. I just think that Clay brought more dimensions to the table. But seriously folks, do we need another Luther Vandross in this world? Clay Aiken on the other hand is extremely original in his presentation of a song.
