Her performance was always exactly the same no matter what type of music she was supposed to be singing. All she had going for her was power. She belted notes through her note louder than I have ever heard. William Hung was better!

Just can't listen to all the high pitch screeching and yeah, yeah, yeahs. Maybe at a church revival this would fly, but Fantasia gives into this setting even singing the Star Spangled Banner. Her Summertime was gorgeous, but as broadway a presentation as you can get. I guess the judges had triple amnesia. Previously they had mocked contestants for broadway-type performances. I thought a couple of other AI3 contestants were much more talented and interesting. Fantasia's fans love her style and voted her the winner, but, with rare exception, I had to leave the room before she finished singing and that room got real crowded.

I don't care for Fantasia's type of singing most of the time. I don't like all the yeah's, and her bending over like she is trying to lay an egg. That said, I do find her so very good at the beginning of some of her songs. She then starts yelling and sounds raspy and kills the song. I realize everyone has preferences and that may appeal to certain people. I never was a Macy or too much of an Aretha fan, so. . . . I thought LaToya had it all over her in talent.

Not AI winner material. She has a powerful voice with tremendous range. She can sound raunchy, but fun, like Maci Gray or Janis Joplin. She can also sing ballads like "Summertime" which rival the performances of greats like Ella Fitzgerald. She hits the high notes and the low ones with equal ease. Her stage presence, while dynamic and emotional, comes off as pushy, brassy and aggressive. In interviews she does not seem very likeable. She does not look at all like an American idol. Again you'll see from my reviews thatI think an idol has to be great musically and also have the "it" or "wow" factor in terms of looks, stage presence and personality. These are the areas in which Ms. Barino misses the mark.

I have never understood the love for Fantasia , both from the judges and the fans. To me her voice is screechy and , due to lack of enunciation I can barely understand what she is saying. While I do give her some credit for the energy she puts into her performances , even that wears thin when she performs the same way for almost every genre. Her highly acclaimed performance of Summertime , did impress me the first time she did it (Movie night) but left me cold each time after for the simple reason of her simply repeating the same performance time after time instead of taking risks and changing it up.

She definitely was unique on some songs and made them her own. Unfortunately in 99% of the cases that meant I didn't like them. Too much yelling, too many "yeah yeahs," too much over-emoting, not enough proper pronunciation to even know what she was saying part of the time. Her stage presence is lacking in basic essentials---face your audience, connect with them---she turns her back on the audience way too much, sings to the floor, bounces up and down so much it is totally distracting and unattractive. Her voice is too scratchy sounding most of the time. I sort of liked Truth Is, but that is the only song I have been able to listen to without cringing.
