He thinks he is a rocker, but he doesn't sing rock well. He sings pop and theatre songs much better. He tends to overenunciate more than any other pop singer I've ever heard (much more than Clay Aiken who was accused of this faux paus). People either love his stage presence or hate it. I hated it on the show, but he toned it down for the concert thank goodness. His performances at the concert weren't that great, though. The only song he sang well was "My Funny Valentine." I have no idea what women find Constantine sexy, but I am not one of them. He is average looking at best. Constantine was one of the most overrated performers on AI 4 and definitely should not have placed any higher than #6. I loved how he took each song, with the exception of Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, and made them his own. He took songs such as I Think I Love You and Nights on Broadway and made them edgier, gave them a bit of a rock sound rather than the pop standards that they are. He made each song a performance; a sign of a true entertainer. Whether it was by facial expression, body language or what he was wearing, I felt I was watching him tell a story with a song rather than singing lyrics; again...an entertainer. His charisma is off the charts. I think he is a dichotomy; appealing in both the good, sweet, shy boy way and the sexy rocker persona. It's this combination that makes you look, makes you watch, makes you listen...and it's the same combination that makes you stay. While not perfect, I love his voice. It can be pure, or gritty, or edgy, yet always befitting of the way he chooses to present his song choice. He has class and style is appealing both physically and vocally to a large range of people and truly has star potential. I look forward to many years of enjoying Constantine's career. He's got it!!! He had more of all the requirements than any I have observed to date. I would give him the highest rank for charisma and being entertaining. He may not have had the very best voice of all but he has a very good and powerful voice which he uses wisely and it seems to be improving as with time. He enhances his perfomances with a flirty charm thatleaves women wanting to hear and see more. Even men seem to like him. This contestant was the most versatile and entertaining. He was able to take on all genres and make them pretty much his own. He also appeared to be quite likable. He was polite and respectful with everyone including his co-contestants and his fans. Becuase of all the above and additional talents and versatility in his background, I think he will go further and last longer in his career than any other contestant to date. However, for the first time a true, natural and genuine idol was found. His name is Constantine Maroulis. What makes him head and shoulder above the others? Not only the fact he is indeed a very tall man. But that obviously doesn't count. What counts is the fact he is much more than a singer . His voice is not too powerful. It can go from the bottom ot the highest notes, however he almost never was interested in showing it. He did occasionaly, though. It seems he knew very well, to make a fantastic performance of popular music that will leave audience asking for more, it's necessary the ability to make it unique, to make the song his own, and to know how to modulate the voice in a way it goes straight to our hearts and souls. It has to sound beautiful. Take a look at other true idols in our history and see if they were like opera tenors. Sting, John Lennon, David Bowie to name a few. None of them have that powerful voice. They know how to sing. Not even Freddie Mercury had that so called powerful voice. And yet, their voices are powerful in the since they hit people, they can pass the message, they use feeling like only the true idols can. Constantine Maroulis is just like them. It doesn't matter here if he will be a super star. Hopefully he will, but I'm talking about his performances in American Idol. They were flawless, with only one exception in Hard to Handle, when he started a bit insecure. Not the right place to really rock on. However, at the large stage he showed he is indeed a rocker thought not only that. His rendition to Bohemian Rhapsody, was the best thing I saw in that program, something I could never dream of. Suddenly, it was not more a contest program. It looked like a stage for a proper rock show starring the very best. Magical. Even the infamous last performance which supposedly made him loose the competition, was far above all others performance that night. Because that was when he showed his professionalism. Now everybody knows he had not enough time to prepare for that song. The band also was not okay that night. He even mixed the words a bit. And in spite of it all, he did his job as if nothing wrong was happening. The rock energy was all there just the same. How could he? It was thanks to his natural vocation for the stage, not only to sing but to really entertain. Someone said somewhere he is the antidote to mediocrity. Multi talented, he is also the epitome of versatility. Noboby like him was on that stage before. Too bad, exactly when an idol like him is part of the show, the judges changed their minds on what was good, on what was important, letting clear they preferred only good singers, and not idols. All other years it was necessary to take risks, to sing in different styles, not to play safe. And then, the authentic American Idol was right there on their faces, doing everything they used to adore. But they were more interested in people who were true to their roots, that stick to one style only, and never risked. Go figure.
