I prefer Kimberely Locke, but i do like Clay alot. But what are people saying, how he has more power and range then Kelly Clarkson or even Mandisa..? 'Voice Range:' I've never heard him match the range of a Whitney. Never ever sang as high as a Mariah. But good enough range. 'Voice Power:' Never heard him match the power of a Whitney in her prime, but good power. 'Voice Control:' He has great control. 'Emotes with Feeling:' Yes - pretty good. 'Sings with pizzazz, flair, & energy:' Ok - not as great as his fans think but good. 'Own style and originality:' Yeah somewhat. 'Stage Presence:' For the most part yeah, but not a totally. 'Appeal, charm, or charisma:' Yeah. 'Physically Attractive:' No, the guy looks ordinary. 'Most outstanding performances:' I give him a solid 9. Clay is probably one of the best of all time. Clay got ripped off because producers NEEDED Ruben to win. Not taking away from Ruben, because I loved him, but Clay was the clear winner. He then proved it with a triple platinum album and another platinum Christmas album and being ranked 16 in the top grossing tours for 2005. There has never been anyone who can captivate a crowd like Clay can and, in my opinion, never will be again. Clay's CD Measure of a Man was the first CD I bought in 15 years. Clay is the real deal, a born showman. He has extreme vocal talent, the likes of which is rare in pop music. He is not "just" a singer, he has incredible comic timing, is great at controlling an audience, gives one of the most fun live shows I have ever attended and just cannot be outsung, plus he is enormously fun to look at. There are many good singers, but he is the best by far. Clay took the competition seriously. He did his work and it showed on every show. Clay used his intelligence when it came to the competition. I would get goosebumps each time he sang. When his songs were over, I would pout until the next week, when I got to hear him sing again. I think they have found only one 'natural born Super Star'. The voice that Clay Aiken has and the charisma that he shows on stage is something they probably will never find again. There have been some decent singers from the show, and they have got another 'star' in Kelly Clarkson. The biggest difference I have seen, after seeing them both in concert several times, Kelly sounds great on recordings, did not enjoy her 'live' performances at all. Clay sounds great on recordings, his 'live' performances will totally take your breath away. The voice is truly amazing! And his charisma and charm on stage have the audience totally wrapped around his finger throughout his show. He has more stage presence than many seasoned professionals have. The third and forth season are still fresh in my mind. This was fun because I'm a real fan of the show and tried to be fair. Now, about Clay Aiken. It would be hard to rate Aiken low on vocal power, range and appeal. I think there was alot of talent on the second season show:Kimberly Locke(lovely voice) and Trenecye(great energy)and Ruben(smooth). They had some excellent songs, but Aiken's voice was stunning. Since I was trying to be fair, I graded him lower on appearance and stage presence even though most were not gorgeous that season or all over the stage for that matter. I love Elton John, but liked Aiken's version better. I did like the fact that he changed the songs somewhat when he sang covers. Just a sidenote after watching four seasons: I liked the harmonizing that the Season 2 contestants did better than the other seasons. I don't know if that's because they all lived together in the Idol mansion and became friends, had more time to practice or they had choral backgrounds. It should be about the group not the solo singer in the group numbers. Did anyone else notice this? I went to one of his Christmas concert last year, I can't believe how fast he grow as a performer. He is the one improved most during the competition and after the competition. He is just so at ease on stage. Also the season two is the best! Season four started out really strong. The only reason he doesn't get perfect 10s from me is because I know he still has more growning and changing to do. He was terrific on AI, but has grown a lot since then, in less than 2 years. His voice is so powerful that he probably doesn't even have full control at all times---but how many artist would love to have that problem. He is still learning where and how to use that power he has. His range is utterly fantastic. Michael Orland even said he had more range than anyone else ever on the show---and that they didn't even know how high his voice could possibly reach. He just shows more each time he performs. He continues to change his style and delivery---even on songs he had already mastered. Someone said after Oprah "leave it to Clay to take a song of his, and still change it and make it his own again." His change and performance of I Will Carry You just goes to show the creative side of this man--the power, yet control. The soul and emotion he puts forth. His life experiences are also making huge changes in him---all his humanitarian efforts are being reflected in his feelings and emotions on various songs. As good as BOTW was on the AI finale, he knocked it out of the park in Florida in April---and totally nailed that final note without the stretch that it was during AI. He has grown that much--that note is now totally comfortable for him. To all those of you who can't fairly evaluate someone, you are ridiculous. No one who is being honest can score him with 1's on anything in this list. You have shown you are obviously carrying your "idol fan wars" to this site---it's pretty pathetic. Clay is the BEST!!! Whether he's having fun with fans during When You Say You love me or 'dirty dancing' with Angela during Princes When Doves Cry (Clay's vocals are wonderful too) or getting down with Quiana while singing Chain of Fools - the man can dance! I have tried to watch the last 2 seasons, but honestly Season 3 was a bore. And Season 4 started out good, but seems to have gone downhill. There is no one with the range, power, and charisma of Clay. There are some good singers, but no one has it all like he did. I think Vonzell comes very close with her charisma, her voice and her song choices are excellent and challenging and she has a sweetness and sincerity about her. I still have not been motivated to pick up the phone since Season 2.
