His voice is pleasant and very pretty, esp. in his mid-range, with a lot of unrealized potential. I do think he needs a couple of years to mature into his voice, and maybe some vocal training. There were definite problems with loss of power in his lower range and oftentimes strain in the upper reaches. I do think Anthony may have been a bit intimidated by both the larger stage and by Simon's dislike of him. I also felt that Anthony did not really establish his own personality, on certain songs, it was almost kareoke. Anthony is decent looking, seems to have a nice, open personality (maybe I caught a whiff of smugness at times) and he was okay on the stage, a bit 'constrained' & predictable in his movements. Anthony's main strength is his lovely voice, and his willingness to take a risk with a song that might not quite fit him. His main weakness may be the unfair comparisons to Clay Aiken. I prefer to see Anthony nurtured and trained, rather than pushed into the "biz" too soon I Love Anthony! His voice is very pure and beautiful, and he made me cry on a few of his ballads. However, he was very inconsistent. He occasionally has pitch problems and breath support problems. He's very likeable, and he can sing... sort of. He has virtually no voice control, always going flat or just not quite reaching a pitch. He should have left long ago, but he's sweet and had a lot of publicity and so he had a good following. Don't EVER compare him to Clay Aiken- he is a better performer, is a little cuter, and has NO WHERE NEAR the talent that Clay has. Clay had a rich booming voice that carries for miles- Anthony has the most annoying nasal tone with excessive vibrato and can't control it or remove it when necessary (who ever heard of a country song with VIBRATO???) He doesn't have good control of his voice though. He can't make all notes, low and high, soft and loud. He fades out to where you can barely hear him on some, yet belts others. He doesn't have a great range yet. With time and training, he may develop into a good singer. He also needs to truly develop his own style--not imitate others. And drop the back story---it gets sympathy from some and major irritation from others. He was compared to Clay a lot--which probably hurt him, because he does not compare favorably. Clay is much better in all categories---and that was probably very unfair to Anthony to be held in comparison. On his own, he may have come out a little better off.
